I try to do at least one and sometimes two scuba trips per year.  So far, I've done Hawaii, Fiji and now Cozumel for the third year running.  Now I'm looking for a new adventure for 2004.  At the suggestion of some of my friends (my wife questions that characterization) I have begun looking for a live-aboard adventure.  After some discussion, Palau was chosen as the destination to pursue.  The quote I received from a travel agent corresponds pretty well to what I determined on my own.  Here's the problem... it's pricey!  I would be willing to do this trip if I can coerce enough of my friends to go.  But I'd be open to other suggested destinations.

I would like to open a discussion on a possible group trip on a live-aboard.  Ideally, we should get enough participation to "own" the boat.  In the case of the Aggressor fleet, that's normally 16 divers.  Also, if you fill the boat, you get two divers free,  which reduces the total cost per diver by about $250.

If you have ideas for specific locations and operators (don't say "Caribbean", say Belize on the Nekton), let me know.

Right now, here's the quote for a 1 week trip aboard the Palau Aggressor.  This includes air fare and one week on the Aggressor but does not include a room on Palau needed for the last night prior to departure and meals for that same night.  I understand this allows about 5 1/2 days of 4 to5 dives a day.  Departure is on a Thursday or Friday from LAX with stops in Hawaii and Guam.  Total travel time is 18 hours.  Crossing the date line puts us in Palau and on the boat on Sunday.  Diving begins that afternoon and continues through Friday.  The boat puts into Palau on Saturday where we stay in a hotel.  We depart on Sunday and due to the date line crossing again, we arrive at LAX on Sunday.  Cost is about $4,500 per person.  Check over on the left for some Palau links.  There's also an email link over there.

Airfare from Los Angeles will be approximately $ 2100.00 to 2500.00 per person roundtrip. Exact airfares will be determined 330 days before departure and closer to travel.
